One Eight Distilling is named for Article One Section Eight of the Constitution, which among other things provided for the establishment of a district to serve as the nation’s capital. This connection to history and tradition informs our founding values: we use local ingredients to create the bold flavors of our region for the people who take no shortcuts.

  1. You just got home after a long day at the distillery - what's going in your glass? As I settle in to start dinner, I often enjoy a classic cocktail, such as District Made Rye Old Fashioned (with Angostura & Orange bitters), a Barrel-Rested Ivy City Gin Negroni or a 2:1 Ivy City Gin and Dolin Blanc Martini with a lemon twist.

  2. Most rewarding part of your role at One Eight? I love all aspects of production from Grain to Glass, but my faves are filling barrels to begin their long maturation process and our collaborations with other great makers.

  3. Favorite spirit we don’t (yet) distill? Genever

  4. Any furry friends at home? Not currently, but Grumples the cat hung with me for years back in my San Francisco days.

  1. You just got home after a long day at the distillery - what's going in your glass? Miller Lite and a nice “home pour” of District Made Rye.

  2. Most rewarding part of your role at One Eight? Getting people to enjoy spirits that they “don’t drink”. It’s a magical thing when I convince people that gin is delicious, especially when they taste the adjectives that I use to describe the spirit. It’s first the surprised look, and then the flash of their cocktail world expanding that I see in their eyes. I’ve done it with many spirits and liquors, but when it happens with our product I feel a sense of pride that I get to be a part of a team that made that happen.

  3. Favorite spirit we don’t (yet) distill? Honestly, I’m still a grumble bunny about not having the Rock Creek White Whiskey in production anymore.

  4. Any furry friends at home? My Bichon Frise, London. Sorry Lizzi, (my girlfriend) but Queen London is first girlfriend, which is why she takes her 50% of the bed out of the middle.

  5. Where have you taken up a resident bar stool? The Wonderland Ballroom, DC Reynolds.

  6. Free time is precious! What are you doing with it? Hah, honest answer is working; I was part-time here at the distillery for four years before coming on full time. Now that I’m full-time, I’m pounding the pavement evangelizing the brand and trying to spread the love I have for the product. Hopefully soon I’ll be doing that on either of my Cinelli bikes. When I really need to decompress, I’ll play either Fallout or Civilization (because I’m a nerd).

  7. If Prohibition rose again, what alternative career would you choose? Excuse me, what, pardon? No, seriously I’d probably go to law school abroad and work on public human rights law and political reconciliation in Bosnia and teach English language snowboarding lessons in the mountains around Sarajevo on the side.

  1. You just got home after a long day at the distillery - what's going in your glass? I have been really into a nice, neat pour of the Untitled Whiskey 13. With 3 types of sherry in the finish, it almost requires you to put your feet up while sipping.

  2. Most rewarding part of your role at One Eight? Creating meaningful experiences that ignite palate exploration and excite our spirited fans! From botanical workshops to barrel-aging festivities, you’ll feel empowered to make craft spirit discovery a lifelong delight.

  3. Favorite spirit we don’t (yet) distill? Calvados.

  4. Any furry friends at home? Not at the moment! I’ll use this line to assert my love for both dogs and cats equally.

  5. Where have you taken up a resident bar stool? Max’s Taphouse, Verde, La Cuchara, Maggie’s Farm, and, if Comptoir du Vin would let me, I’d move in!

  6. Free time is precious! What are you doing with it? Going to ska shows, going to punk shows, going to ska punk shows.

  7. If Prohibition rose again, what alternative career would you choose? Running the warning lights in the owl eyes at the Owl Bar!
